FAQ
How exactly do I install this modpack-thingy?
Before you do anything, please fill our APPLICATION form. We implemented this to prevent raids, trolls or sudden surges of players.
To connect to our server, you need to have the same mods as everyone else, including the server itself. To streamline the process of bringing these exact mods to your PC, we created a modpack in the Technic Launcher. Here's how you do it:
Step 1: Download the Technic Launcher. You can do this HERE. Choose your operating system and do as the installer says.
Step 2: Log in with your Mojang Account. To do this, you naturally need to own Minecraft. If you don't, you have to buy it.
Step 3: Download our modpack. Just like the server, it is called "Hermes". You will recognise our modpack by the fact that it includes the link to this website in the modpack's description.
Step 4: Make sure that you have enough RAM allocated. You probably need to allocate at least 4GB of ram, but we recommend 6GB for a stable experience. However, it isn't recommended to allocate more than 50% of your RAM to Java. So you either need a computer with more than 12GB of RAM or reduce the amount of RAM allocated to the game.
To actually allocate more RAM to the client, you just need to click on "Launcher Options" in the top right corner of the Technic Launcher. Go to "Java Settings" and increase the amount of allocated RAM through the drop-down menu.
Step 5: Start the game. Depending on your hardware, this can take anything between one and three minutes. You have to do this though the launcher of course. If you start the game as you would normally, there won't be any mods loaded.
Step 6: Go to "Multiplayer" and add a new server. Use our IP and join!
How do I claim land?
Claiming land stops other players from breaking and placing blocks and interacting with doors, chests, machines, etc... We use this to prevent griefing. You have a set amount of chunks you can claim. If you reach your limit, you cannot claim any more land.
Be careful on which chunks you claim. You probably want to claim chunks right next to each other, not separate chunks scattered around the map. You can always remove your claims if you do not want them anymore. Just be careful that you don't remove claims you need on accident. You can only remove your own claims, of course.
Knowing where chunks begin and end might be a little hard. To show the chunk borders, press the buttons F3 and G simultaneously.
The prefix for the mod is cclaim. Open the chat with the button "t" and enter /cclaim [argument]. Replace the [argument] with the argument you want from the following list.
- info - Shows basic information on the chunk you are standing on
- list - Lists the coordinates of the chunks you have claimed so far
- claim - Claims the chunk you're standing on for yourself (if it's free)
- unclaim - Removes your claim
- addmember [username] - Replace [username] (including the brackets) with the username of a friend. Players added through this command have the same rights on your claim as you, except they can't change ownership or membership of the claim.
- removemember [username] - Removes a user's rights added by the "addmember" argument.
A few examples:
To claim a chunk you would press "t" and write: "/cclaim claim" (Including the slash, excluding the quotation marks).
To add a member to you claim, you would press "t" again and write "/cclaim addmember TrustedPlayersUsername".
How can I contact the moderators?
If you have any questions or you want to report a player or bug, please write to us on Discord. You can use either the dedicated channels or dm us on discord. You can also write an Email (see "Contact" in the top right corner).
I'm experiencing lag! Is it me or the server?
If you experience any problems during the game, this can have several causes. These might or might not be on our side. If you feel like it could be us, please tell us!
To easily distinguish server-side-lag (us) and client-side-lag (you), we will list a few common examples.
Is your framerate low? This is definitely a problem on your side and due to insufficient computing power. You could try to turn down the settings of the game.
Are you breaking blocks but they keep reappearing? Are you repeatedly teleported back a few blocks? This might or might not be on our side. Before you tell us, please check your internet connection. If websites load slowly or your ping is very high, it is due to your pc struggling to keep up a connection with our server. Nevertheless, if your internet connection is perfectly fine, it is a problem with our server.
